Just to clarify here are the major due dates for your assignments.
Writing observations: Feb. 2
Wiki project: Feb. 23 (drafts should be ready one week in advance).
Rhetoric paper: March 11 (drafts should be ready at least a week and a half in advance).

Please do a half page reading summary for the Schaub reading; try to extract the main ideas from the article.

Band practice..
Base/band compose… What element comes first, how does it build, how do each of the elements come together.. How do they normally go about it?
Reading reception / see what everyone extracted / how the outlines are built / what stuck out
Thesis writer / observe / talk out loud and tell you what she’s doing / she may feel she’s nowhere near finished …
Friends are writing amateur fiction … observe them writing part of a story or a poem / how do the ideas change / preliminary interview -> plot elements -> try to be unobtrusive -> maybe closing interviews
Both applying to graduate programs / writing statement of purpose / persuasive piece / pre-interview, prewriting strategies?
Controversial writing prompt … she’s going to talk out loud… either have to do with personality ?
Language student .. Spanish.. Poem in Spanish vs poem in English .. How she’s going to tackle the tasks?

Watch someone write a lesson plan
Creative writing class — observe revising / post questions
DAP – graphic design student / taking breaks / amount of breaks impacts
Group project / watch her / making slides / where she gets info and how she composes slides / perceives audiences

Please read the RFE-RL PDF report. I’d like you to focus your attention on how writing and composing functions. Please also read the first four parts of “Why Teach Digital Writing?”
For homework I would also like you to return to the “Is Rhetoric an Art?” article and think about the distinction between a techne and art. I’d also like you to think more about the subject of rhetoric. What is it? What are its limitations?

Homework: please read the “Is Rhetoric an Art?” article (now linked off the schedule), and the reading on Kairos. Compose a one page entry discussing time and argument. Provide one example where you, a friend, etc used the right argument at the opportune moment, or the wrong argument at the wrong moment. Other combinations may also be possible. The purpose of this exercise is to get you thinking about how argument relates to a concept of time (linear and the opportune), and identify a few instances where you can see this play out.
Please be prepared to discuss and hand in (print) your one page paper on Tuesday.
